Large-Scale + Museum-Wide Events
The Whitney Museum hosts large-scale, museum-wide events for intergenerational audiences, featuring a wide range of programs, including hands-on art-making, bilingual tours in English and Spanish, in-gallery activities, performances, dance classes, and more. In January 2024, the Whitney launched a free-admission initiative on the second Sunday of each month, supported by a generous grant from the Art Bridges Foundation. This initiative aims to increase museum attendance both on free-admission days and beyond, drawing a broader, more diverse audience across ages, races, ethnicities, and income levels. Free Second Sundays have seen attendance nearly double compared to typical Sundays, demonstrating the positive impact of this initiative.
As the lead program designer for Second Sundays, Laura is responsible for conceptualizing all programming, developing the curriculum for art-making activities, and training and supervising a dedicated team of educators, teens, and staff to facilitate the programs. Through careful planning, budget management, and close collaboration with artists, performers, and community partners, Laura works to craft programs that make each visit to the museum both inspiring and welcoming to all.
